20/20/20 Rule to Prevent Eyestrain

  • By Chris Bishop

Computer use can cause eyestrain because we blink less often than normal. This reduced rate of blinking makes your eyes dry, which may lead to the feeling of eyestrain or fatigue.

You can follow the 20-20-20 rule. Look up from your work every 20 minutes at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. You should also blink often to refresh your eyes, take regular breaks from your computer screen, and adjust computer display settings.
